Mountain Biking

It’s not a secret anymore, Stowe has amazing trails!
Mountain biking is a summer and fall sport that has several years of history in Vermont, and in Stowe. The Stowe Mountain Bike Club, Vermont Mountain Bike Association, Town of Stowe, Stowe Land Trust, Trapp Family Lodge and Stowe Area Association are all playing a part in increasing this rapidly expanding adventurous sport in Stowe. In 2006, The Vermont Mountain Bike Association (VMBA) had the idea of developing a destination quality trail system in the Stowe-Waterbury area, which could capitalize on Stowe’s reputation as a world-class recreation destination. Over the past 6 years, land has been purchased and/or approved for use by private land-owners, which has allowed for professional trail design and construction. This has given Stowe a gem: a 50+ mile trail system which has been created through existing infrastructure, sustainable trail building practices, a map, and signage to better direct riders to legitimate trails.

Stowe’s location and reputation precede it.
Stowe is perfectly situated to become the hub for Mountain Biking in Vermont. Waterbury’s proximity to Interstate 89 and Stowe’s existing reputation as a recreation destination are huge plusses. Stowe has existing hospitality infrastructure which sets us apart. There is more to offer a mountain biker here than the expansive trail network: nightlife, dining, shopping, spas, and other outdoor recreation.

The community says “yes”!
Through the reconstruction of trails, mapping the publically accessible trails, and the acquisition of the Cady Hill Forest (among other areas to build and preserve trails), Stowe has shown that is has the vast support of the community in pushing forward with the effort of becoming a recognized Mountain Biking destination.

The Timberholm says “yes” too, by becoming a “bike friendly” Inn!
In order to meet bike friendly standards of the International Mountain Bicycle Association (IMBA) the Timberholm now has a Bike Wash Station and a secure place for people to store their bikes. We also have the latest maps of all the mountain biking trails and have educated ourselves on the subject of mountain biking in Stowe.
